Now of course it wasn't staged but.....the hype around the send off, seeing that everyone else had failed or died, made it that much more mythical. so to is the application process. everyone knows that it happens and that many people get in. everyone (that is the people i know who all happen to be like me-nerds) expect to do honours and so take it as a given that they will remain the next year. of course this is not the case. as you start to type up your CV and motivation and realise that you STILL NEED REFERENCES well then the whole thing takes you to outer orbit where you begin the awfulness of endulging in the 'what if's' holy hell. what if i dont make honours? where do i go? into advertising? .....most probably that's where they all go.

"Yesterday we weren't white enough...Today we're not black enough"

tutu
Originally uploaded by just jaff.
Today i heard Bishop Desmond Tutu speak at the Steve Biko Memorial, in UCT. What a fabulous speaker, with wit and humour and an elegance that gains him the audience's immediate love. The Bishop spoke of respect or rather the lack thereof in today's South Africa. It was not only the crime to which he referred, but public service and courtesy. He sawSouth Africa as a place where there was dissent amongst young people of different ethnicities. There is an arrogance surrounding the young. Honestly i think i have to agree. In the middle of SRC elections at UCT, we are bombarded with disrespect daily and politics become the forerunner rather than the students needs. SASCO and the DA punt out manifestos which mean nothing to issues we face in today's lecture halls- academic exclusion, falling standard of teaching, plagarism, disrespect of lecturers and fellow students... why is everything now about race when we have to put it aside to deal with deeper issues. The generation before us, the ones who delt with the direct effects of apartheid have put their differences aside or rather just agreed that in order to prevent civil war the best solution was to embrace the population. but now arrives the youth. We seem to feel a need to create barriers where our predecessors have aimed to bridge. we seem to feel disposed to exclude one another out of resentment. i am not saying ignore the past, i am saying face it. and face it in a way that everyone can contribute to discussion- not just 'amandla' without the other 20%.

Personal profile?

 Picture 001
Originally uploaded by just jaff.
Until i understand, how to use this goddam blogging profile updating technosphere of hell, this is the profile picture. I would say that after a ten hour car trip with wet hair and an old cowboy hat on, life is pretty open to interpretation. especially your own cynical point of view. right now i think im too tired to try and even begin to be depressed. the effort involved is just past that point of deciding whether or not you have the energy tp leave bed to pee (when you dont really have to). That's how i feel. Stating the obvious, i would say that when you're feeling impulsive enjoy the foolhardiness of it all and eat salmon that makes your breath smell of another nature.

Virgin blogger..

It's my first time in the cyber-kinetic energy official wanking zone.
